The $25 Wine Class: Sparkling Wine

Ever wonder why some sparkling wines are called Champagne, but some are called Prosecco, Cava, or simply sparkling? Get the answer to these and so many more questions about bubbly wine this Monday, February 13, in our next installment of The $25 Wine Class!

Instructor Robin Sidor will talk you through tasting three very different (and very refreshing) sparklers. You’ll learn about the complicated process of producing everyone's favorite celebratory beverage, and Robin will cover the three most common methods of production (complete with videos!). You’ll also be treated to info about the classic varietals used in the world’s most famous sparkling wine-producing regions and descriptions of each major method of sparkling wine production— plus you’ll get some basics on how to taste sparkling wine. Instructor Bio: Robin hails from the beautiful island of...Long Island, one of New York State's most important wine-producing regions. In his free time Robin enjoys cooking, playing tennis, Bikram yoga, writing music, and rescuing butterflies from spider webs. Before making the move to NYC, he worked in the tasting rooms of a few different wineries, soaking up every drop of knowledge he could. It might have been the booze, but before long Robin was sloshed...err, hooked. In order to increase his understanding, he worked on the production side as a winemaker's apprentice at Premium Wine Group, a large-scale winemaking facility (yep, that means tons of lifting, climbing, crushing, pressing, bottling, alligator wrestling—subject to vintage—and spraying lots of things with a hose), which convinced him he'd found his calling. Years later, our resident sparkling expert has found a home at Brooklyn Winery, where he bartends, teaches classes, gives high-fives, helps Conor with harvest duties, and just generally charms the pants off everyone!
